About Carmen:
Carmen holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts in Communication Disorders from Edinboro University in Edinboro , Pennsylvania . She is a licensed speech-language pathologist in North Carolina and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
Carmen has been practicing at Therapy Playground since August 2006. Prior to moving to Fayetteville , Carmen has worked in Charlotte , North Carolina for the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, working with preschool and school-age children with a variety of developmental disabilities. As a speech-language pathologist working with the public school system, she evaluated children, assisted in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s), conducted IEP meetings, consulted with providers and educated teachers and parents. As part of her role in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg system, Carmen acted as a Local Education Agency Representative (LEA) and School Compliance Facilitator, guiding proper placement of children and ensuring compliant paperwork.
Carmen has also co-founded and designed Fit For Language Summer Camp in Charlotte . This program was designed to facilitate language development, in an inclusive setting, targeting both typically and non-typically developing children. In Charlotte , Carmen has also worked for a private practice performing evaluations and providing therapy to children ages 3 years to 15 years with a variety of disabilities.
